Shifting from an employee mindset is, as you say, one of the critical steps in the process of trying to start a business, whether it be online or a “bricks and mortar” style.
You go on to say that an employee is traditionally a person who seeks security, and is most likely to be of the type to wait for instruction.
I have been one of those people, a person who worked for an organisation for 20+ years and subsequently offered a “package” – which really meant, we are downsizing, we want you to go.
At least I was offered a package, and I took it.
It is true that you need to have an entrepreneurial spirit to succeed in business, and it is true that it can be developed by someone who has been an employee for many years.
My passion was that I knew I could make it in business and that I needed to find the “right opportunity” however, as I have firmly believed for many years it takes time and planning. Sadly, I had neither due to the ‘here is your package’ offer and two weeks to leave!

I like the way you share about the mindset of an entrepreneur and a mindset of an employee. A lot of children to study hard to get a good paying job. The oldies got this kind of teaching. I wish there’s a school from Kindergarten to high school that focuses on entrepreneurship alone.
Somehow, the fact is the companies also need employees to work for them. However, you can also work from home. I like your idea of being the entrepreneur earning from home and not as an employee.

I’ve been looking into working online part time with a view to it becoming a full time job – although there are a few cons I’m fully aware of before I jump in!
First off the bat is the time scale – I’ve read numerous articles from successful people online who claim that they actually had to work MORE hours than their nine to five when they were starting out, just to get ahead of the crowd – did you find that this was the same when you started out?
I’m also a little worried about the distraction side of things – finding a quiet space in the house with two kids is going to be very hard. How did you get around this? Do you have a private office?

Living life tied to a desk job is truly not our destiny in this world. we must live life in our own terms, be our own bosses and have the time to be with the people we love. So initially yes, I’m using a lot of my free time to build it up, but I know that i’m building this FOR my family and to spend more precious time with them. It’s my burning WHY so it doesn’t seem like “work”.
Distractions? I have found a quiet place in a separate room in the house and like to have clear boundaries, clear time to spend precious moments with family and clear time building my business. But I also love the flexibility it has. There are always nooks and crannies throughout the day too, you just have to find the best time(s) that suit you.

I have only recently really gotten clear on my WHY? And then made the decision of what I have to do daily for my business to be a success.
